Dealing with a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) means that you are not dealing with an independent consultant; To become licensed, a consultant must take intensive immigration courses, and pass certain examinations. Not only that, but an RCIC would have to continue taking self-development courses in order to retain the licensure. On top of it all, our regulator (CCIC) oversees our operations. Thus, there is clearly a vast difference in what you get from dealing with a licensed professional compared to dealing with an unregulated consultant, whom we refer to as “ghost consultant”. Make the right choice and protect yourself; deal with an RCIC!
The national regulatory body in Canada is the College of Canadian Immigration Consultants or the CCIC. Since its transformation into the College , the CCIC has been enforcing a set of regulations that governs the relations between RCICs, the clients, and the CCIC itself. To learn more about the CCIC, please visit their website:
There are quite a few advantages of hiring an RCIC over an unregulated consultant. Below we mention some key ones:
- High ethical and professional standards are referenced and enforced.
- Sufficient degree of knowledge is surely attained by virtue of the license.
- RCICs are insured for errors and omissions.
- Regulator oversees RCICs' operations and bank accounts.
- Lots more!
This is perfectly fine! You do not need to hire a consultant or lawyer for many, if not most, of your immigration applications. If you believe you are capable of representing yourself, then you may do so without any legal impediments. However, it would be advisable to hire someone who has the expertise in the field, and who would better be aware of the related laws and regulations. After all, immigration submissions are usually part of a major life transition. So our advice would be not to risk making an error or omission in your application; be represented by a professional.
Even though we would love to guarantee our results, this would be impossible. Unfortunately, there can never be a guarantee of the result of a submission, regardless if it was done through an individual, an RCIC, or even a lawyer. Each case would have its own facts and elements, and would ultimately be subject to the judgement of the officer.
Of course. That is one of the ways that the CCIC protects your rights! If you ever believe that an RCIC has not handled your case professionally, or if you suspect that your rights have been infringed, there is a Complaints and Disciplinary commissions that is willing to hear your voice.
